Klein-Mariazell, Basilica and Monastery

From the former Benedictine monastery, the basilica and individual parts of the monastery building, the Maierhof, the tavern and the monastery wine cellar have been preserved.

The jewel of the entire complex is certainly the church, which spans an art-historical arc from Romanesque to modern times.
At its core we see a Romanesque pillar basilica with impressive Romanesque portals. The late Romanesque cellarium in the reliquary also dates from this period. The early Gothic cloister is just as impressive as the monks' choir stalls from the 17th century.

A special highlight inside the church is the fresco cycle on the life of Mary - the first major work by the Bohemian-Austrian baroque painter Johann Wenzel Bergl (1719-1789). An installation with several stations brings visitors closer to Bergl's factory and invites them to immerse themselves in his world. In the present art history, we finally end up with the contemporary, modern crypt.
