The first chapel in St. Corona am Schöpfl was consecrated in 1444 at the request of Abbot Michael from Mariazell. However, this was burned down in the 16th century during the Turkish siege.
It was not until the settlement of woodcutter families at the end of the 17th century that the need for a place of worship arose again, which was not too far away for these settlers (it was 8 km to Mariazell Monastery in the Vienna Woods).
The present church was built from 1719 to 1721, and the Mariazeller monks took over pastoral care.
The altarpiece of St. Corona from this period still adorns the high altar today and is an art-historical highlight of this pilgrimage church, along with a picture of All Saints' Day from the mid-18th century in the nave.
St. Corona is also famous for its healing well, which is why it is popularly known as “Heiligenbrunn”.
